  1. The salamander was believed to be a mythical creature that could withstand fire without dying. Because of this, it's a symbol in F451 that represents immortality and unbreakable will. The government seems to be strong and unbreakable because they have so much control over all the people living there. Having the salamander on the fireman uniform shows that the firemen can enter into a fire to burn books, and they will always come out victorious.

  3. Cade had a question on the document that said “how has fire affected the characters throughout the book?”. I think fire controls the people. Early in the book it says “Those who don’t build must burn. It’s as old as history and juvenile delinquents” (Bradbury 42). People in this society either benefit from fire or is harmed by fire. The meaning of fire shifts throughout the book. At the beginning the fire is very destructive and only used for bad, but in the end of the book readers see how fire is not only used to destroy, and that it burns for pleasure (like the sun).

  4. Fire has affected every character in the book because that makes everyone understand that books in their society are not allowed and that it's to get rid of the mistakes of their ideas and doings, by reading books. From page 111 on the graphic novel, made me realize that all the books are ruined in the fire and the authors ideas that they had wrote are gone.

  5. We see a lot of people racing cars and doing dumb crazy things for the adrenaline rush in today's society. Is our society going in the direction of crashing cars for fun?

  6. fire i think has a really dark meaning, also fire is a tool you use to forget about something or destroy something. i also think on page 111 of the GN it shows all of the fire and maybe they just wanted to get ride of something.

  7. Montag having so many books is because he been questioning his life for a while and being a firefighter for ten years has change what he believes. Also by seeing all the people burn and this may have played a factor for Montag wondering why they have books and are willing to die for books. Which my have lead Montag to go down the path he went down.

  8. I think it is very ironic how Beatty died by fire, when he worked so hard to promote the idea that fire is good.

  9. Caleb asked a question about whether violence creates change in a society and I think this is powerful because I think it create frustration and fear rather than positive change. I think this is true because in the beginning of the book Montag is brainwashed and burns house and kills people without a thought or any remorse. Then he meets clarisse and sees that life is better than the violence that exists because he sees that clarisse is happy without violence and not until then does he realize that he isn’t happy. At the end of thee book on pages 115-117 Montag reverts to his violent ways and burns a robotic dog and 3 firefighters except for this time he has a reason, books. After this the whole society is rattled and angry. His violent acts creates nothing but negative change and the death of an innocent person.

  10. I think, that people would want to kill themselves and want to come back because they have a purpose in the world and wants to make a change in the world. Page 16-17 in the graphic novel Mildred, wanted to die by taking the sleeping pills because at that moment she didn’t feel as if she were important. But when she came back, she was reading books that she was wanting to change the world/society to have others read books.

  11. Chloe asked how this book is connected to modern time (something like that) and I think that in today's society the value of written paper and books is becoming more and more less valued. Our technology is advancing so fast and many times we do not realize how it can actually harm us. There are many distractions involving technology and it is so easy to fall into the trap that technology has set for us. In my opinion I think phones, especially smartphones are made to get us addicted so we continue to use them. I think it is very important to stop and live in the moment without technology. It's like the short story that we read with the handicaps people had to wear in order to be the same. I think technology is our handicaps because in today's society we can’t live without them.

  12. Living in the moment is a very important thing to do. Almost no one in their society does, and not many people in our society do. When Clarisse says, "'I sometimes think drivers don’t know what grass is, or flowers, because they’ve never seen them slowly,'" it shows that people in their society don't really slow down to take the world in. To me, living in the moment means being aware of your current surroundings at all times rather thinking about the past or future. In our society, people miss out on so much because they're looking down at their phones. In their society, people miss things because they spend all their time inside watching tv.

  13. Dylan’s question got me to think that the smart people are the people in society who have the power. Beatty is a great example of this because he tells montag that he has read before and can quote certain books when that’s not allowed but since he runs the crew that destroys books it’s ok for him to know because he doesnt use it in a way to hurt the government or society.

  14. off of what paige said about consequences, Montag killed some people and went against society but he was rewarded in a good way because he wasn't stuck in the city bombing and now has a new good life with new people. So was there any negative repercussions for him?

  15. ¨living in the moment¨ i think means that you can see anything you wanna see that is horrible, horrifying and also trajic. everyone wants to see it happen but nobody wants to be in that event happening. i think this has to do with the brains curiosity of what would happen if this happen or why things happen. and you can find that out by watching something happen, and without getting hurt.
